SBK Commission Decisions: Postponement of the fuel flow meter and technical regulations for the World Sport Motorcycle Championship

The SBK Commission, composed of Mr. Gregorio LAVILLA (Dorna, Executive Director of WorldSBK), Mr. Paul KING (Director of the FIM Circuit Racing Commission), Mr. Biense BIERMA (General Secretary of the MSMA), in the presence of Jorge VIEGAS (FIM President), Mr. Ludovic REIGNIER (FIM WorldSBK Technical Director), Mr. Roland BERGER (FIM CTI Director), Mr. Dominique HEBRARD (FIM CTI Technical Director), Mr. Paul DUPARC (FIM CCR Manager), Mr. Svetlana NAZAROVA (Coordinator of the FIM Circuit Racing Commission and Secretary of the SBK Commission), at a meeting held on October 18, 2025 at the Jerez – Angel Nieto Circuit, took the following decisions.

WORLDSBK REGULATION CHANGES: The SBK Commission examined the principle of carrying forward fuel flow meter data and took the following decisions.

  • When a manufacturer carries over the maximum reduction limit of -1 kg/h from the previous season to the reference value of the FIM season, an additional penalty of up to 0,5 kg/h may be applied in the following season according to the MSMA algorithm.
  • When a manufacturer carries over the maximum of +0,5 kg/h of concessions from the previous season, it can still obtain an additional concession of +0,5 kg/h during the season following the MSMA algorithm.
  • If a manufacturer continues to demonstrate a significant performance advantage, the FIM/DWO reserves the right to apply a further reduction of up to a maximum of 0,5 kg/h.
  • The limitation, for the whole season, to a maximum of two fuels certified as conforming to the FIM Category 1 fuel specification, introduced and used for each manufacturer or team, was discussed and approved by the SBK Commission.

WorldSPB Regulations: Guidelines for the very first season of the Championship

The SBK Commission is continuing its work regarding the introduction of a new category to the FIM MotoSport World Championship in 2026, following strong interest from manufacturers and participants. The 2026 FIM MotoSport Technical Regulations have been presented and approved by the SBK Commission. The 2026 FIM MotoSport Provisional Technical Regulations, which contain the full text of the regulations, are available on the FIM website. HERE].  .

  • The minimum age requirement is 16. The maximum age is 25 for new contracted riders participating in the Sportbike category. To ensure a smooth transition within this championship, the maximum age will be set at 28 for experienced riders (i.e., those who have already participated in the WorldSSP300 and Women's Circuit Racing World Championships).

From 2026 onwards, the maximum age for riders who have participated in the Sportbike category will be raised to 28 years.

  • For WorldSSP and WorldSPB, the maximum number of participants is limited to 34, including 1 Wild Card.
  • In all categories, various clarifications have been made to the WorldSBK Sporting, Disciplinary and Medical Code, which will soon be available on the FIM website.

The resolutions of this Superbike Commission were approved by the Standing Bureau.
