After the summer break, the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship returns to the legendary Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours for the French Round. Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) arrives with the championship lead and positive momentum, but Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) hopes to curb his momentum at a circuit where he scored a one-two finish last year.
THE TITLE DUEL: Can Bulega stop Toprak?
"El Turco" leads "Bulegas" by 26 points heading into the ninth round of a 12-point season. Last year, Razgatlioglu crashed heavily in FP2, missing the French and Italian Rounds, while Bulega took both Sunday wins. Toprak already has eight wins at Magny-Cours and could make it the third circuit where he has surpassed the ten-point mark. For Bulega, another double would bring his total to five wins, his best tally at a single track in WorldSBK. The question is simple: will Toprak maintain his pace after his three consecutive triples, or will Bulega launch his counter-offensive?
BRONZE MEDAL AT STAKE: Petrucci in the lead, Locatelli and Bautista in ambush
Behind the leading duo, the battle for third place is in full swing. Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team) is 15 points ahead of Andrea Locatelli (Pata Maxus Yamaha). Announced at BMW to replace Toprak in 2026, "Petrux" arrives fired up after three podiums at Magny-Cours last year. Locatelli has only been on the podium once here, in his first race in WorldSBK. Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) is in fifth place, his future assured, and is now focused on the battle for the top three.
THE TOP 10 ON REBOOT
Sam Lowes (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) is enjoying a solid second season in WorldSBK, but is aiming for his first podium finish in France. Xavi Vierge (Honda HRC) and Alex Lowes (Bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team) are separated by just seven points, but the Briton already has six podium finishes here… none for the Spaniard. Next, there's a 15-point gap between #22 and Iker Lecuona (Honda HRC). However, the Spaniard has been declared unfit: still recovering from the fracture in his left forearm sustained at Balaton, he will miss the French Round. He will be replaced by his compatriot Sergio Garcia , who brings three seasons of Moto2 experience to the Japanese manufacturer's garage. Lecuona maintains only a three-point lead over Andrea Iannone (Team Pata GoEleven), who himself is just three points ahead of Axel Bassani (Bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team). Both will try to overtake Lecuona in the standings, who, at least, has his future secured as he will replace Bautista in 2026. Iannone will, however, have to undergo a medical examination on Thursday to find out if he will be cleared to race.
REA LAUNCHES ITS FAREWELL TOUR
The French Round marks the first of Jonathan Rea's (Pata Maxus Yamaha) final four appearances as a full-time rider . A nine-time winner and 21-time podium finisher at Magny-Cours, the six-time World Champion will be looking to create new memories on a circuit that has been a defining part of his career.
PENDING FUTURES
Dominique Aegerter (GYRT GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) still doesn't have a seat for 2026 after an up-and-down season. Twelfth in the standings, the Swiss rider is just six points behind Bassani and is aiming for a big result in France, where he has two wins and four podiums in WorldSSP. Michael van der Mark (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team), last year's rain-hit winner, will be looking to rediscover his best form, as will Garrett Gerloff (Kawasaki WorldSBK Team), who has yet to be declared fit after his crash at Balaton Park. The American is just three points ahead of Yari Montella (Barni Spark Racing Team), who will be making his first appearance in Magny-Cours in WorldSBK.
IN THE RHYTHM: Vickers and Mackenzie want to confirm
Ryan Vickers (Motocorsa Racing) and Tarran Mackenzie (MGM BONOVO Action) arrive in France after achieving their best WorldSBK results in Hungary. Bahattin Sofuoglu (Yamaha Motoxracing WorldSBK Team), Michael Rinaldi (same team), Tito Rabat and Zaqhwan Zaidi (PETRONAS MIE Honda Racing Team) will also be looking to score points.
