The International Circuit of Nevers Magny-Cours hosted the GP3 tests for two days (Wednesday 2 and Thursday 3 March). On this occasion, seven official teams participated: Arden Motorsport, Koiranen GP, Art Grand Prix, DAMS, Jenzer Motorsport, Trident Motorsport and Campos Racing. This championship, a support race for some rounds of the Formula 1 World Championship, was won by the French driver Esteban OCON in 2015 at the wheel of a GP3 run by the Art Grand Prix team. These single-seaters, with 400 hp, have a 6 cylinder 3.4l engine. They attain 0-100 mph in less than 3 seconds and 0 to 200 km/h in less than 8 seconds. The GP3 have a maximum speed of 285 km/h.
During these tests on the Nivernais circuit, seven teams were seen to use new items for the 2016 season. Before starting the official trials, the teams have to try their new chassis and their new engines. Each driver has a half day on circuit in order to find their different settings.
The 2016 GP3 Championship will have a new French driver this season. Giuliano ALESI, son of the famous F1 driver Jean ALESI, will participate for the first time in a single-seater world championship after winning the title of vice-champion of France in the F4 category in 2015.
